Courthouse Square, Mylert Street, it is opened Mid June through
Labor Day. Hours are 1:00 p.m.-5:00p.m. Thursday, Friday and
Saturday. Special groups May make appointments by calling 946-5020
or 946-4542. The museum and the volunteer staff make it a worthwhile
experience. Another area of historical interest is the planned
community of Celestia, 1-1/2 miles west of Laporte. It was a 600
acre Religious Community that was deeded to GOD in 1860 by its
founder Peter Armstrong who died in 1887. In 1876 County authorities
demanded back taxes and the property was sold at a tax sale.

THE BALDWIN HOUSE
The Historical
Society has a shared interest with the county in The Baldwin House
located across Mylert street from the Museum. Built in the 1850's,
this is one of the oldest houses in Laporte. It is now a house
museum illustrating life in the county before 1880. It is open the
same hours as the Museum for guided tours.
