Lake Mokoma

Lake Mokoma is located one-half mile east of the center of Laporte at the foot of a hill fondly referred to as "The Lake Hill". The 100 acre spring fed lake at 1756' elevation was created in 1888. It is currently owned by the 175 shareholders of the Lake Mokoma Association. Members' dues pay for taxes, maintenance, lifeguards and activities. The active season runs from mid June to Labor Day. Swimming, boating, sailing and fishing are all popular activities on the lake. Only small electric motors are permitted. The Beach Shop is open afternoons and evenings and is a popular meeting place for young people.
