COMMUNITY HALL

The Community Hall was originally constructed as a Methodist Church in 1873 for the sum of $ 477.00. It is located in the middle of the block on the West Side of Muncy Street between Mylert and Cherry Streets. In 1921 the Methodist purchased the Baptist Church and the community of Laporte purchased this building for the sum of $300.00. The steeple, pews and alter were removed by the a board of managers who kept it in excellent condition. It was used by various clubs and organizations, and by the Laporte Fire Company. The building was later deeded to the County Commissioners and later it was transferred to the Boro. of Laporte. The current hardwood floor was salvaged from the Dance Hall on Mt.Wahollock, located at Lake Mokoma, when it was dismantled in the early 1940's. The Community Hall is hoast to a few annual social events each year including Coffee and Snacks after The Memorial Day Parade and Service, Mid Summer Women Club Smorgasbord Dinner. Late Summer Women's Club Brunch and the ever popular Halloween Party. It is available for private use as approved by the Borough Council.
